about

Another ukulele track, this one even has some xylophone in it! These are some of my favorite lyrics on the album, and expresses pretty well the fervent hope and uncertainty I felt at the time. All we can do is hope for the best, and so far things have worked out pretty well!

lyrics

I always keep copper pennies in my pockets
And every time I come across a fountain or a well
I pull a shiny penny from a pocket and I toss it in
the water, and every time I make the very same wish

I’m always looking out for wild dandelions
growing through the cracks in sidewalks, waiting to be picked
I pluck them up, those downy tufts, and blow the seeds asunder
And as I watch them dance away, I always wish for the same thing

Please let things work out
Please let things work out
Please let ev-ry-thing work out
Please let ev-ry-thing work out

Anytime I’m on the road, I’m always hoping for a tunnel
Everytime one comes along I fill my lungs with air
I hold my breath as the car passes through the darkness
All the time repeating to myself my only wish

Every year, come November, one more candle on the cake
I take a deep breath and right before I let it out
I close my eyes and concentrate on what I want
and year after year, this is what I say to myself

Please let things work out
Please let things work out
Please let ev-ry-thing work out
Please let ev-ry-thing work out

Every night I stare up at the sky and look for shooting stars
And everytime I see one, I close my eyes and make a wish

And some times when I look up at the sky
And it’s early still
And all I can see
All I can see is one lonesome star
And I smile and I close my eyes and I say

Star light, star bright
First star I see tonight
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have this wish I wish tonight

Please let things work out
Please let things work out
Please let ev-ry-thing work out
Please let ev-ry-thing work out
